Game Tools

Clay.io is not a game engine, you won't be able to make a complete game with our API - just enhance a game with social and payment features. There are however some great game engines being developed, here are our recommendations.

Game Engines

TreSensa offers a game engine that helps with commercial quality games that are optimized for the mobile web, allowing you to leverage more distribution channels. Here are two good examples of games made using TreSensa's engine: Rocket Cat and Strandead
Pixi.js is a fast lightweight 2D library for games, with great performance on mobile devices as well. See Run pixi Run for a demo of this library.

Construct 2 allows you to create games by dragging and dropping items and using a visual editor. This video will give you a good feel for the game development process. Here are two good examples of games made with Scirra: AirScape and 8 Bits Runner

ImpactJS allows for a bit more customization as you're writing the code yourself, but isn't as easy to pick up (especially if you're not a programmer). Brutal Collage and Biolab Disaster are examples of games built with ImpactJS.
melonJS is a great light-weight (and free) HTML5 game engine. Bitzz and Alex the Allegator 4 are examples of games built with melonJS.
Quintus is an HTML5 game engine designed to be modular and lightweight, with a concise JavaScript-friendly syntax. It's a newer engine that has gained a lot of popularity recently.

GameMaker is another easier-to-use game engine -- one that is tried and true (over 13 years old). With their newer HTML5 export option, you can make HTML5 games with it.
